Case Study:

Lamplas Delivering Efficient Composite Solutions for Lancashire Renewables.

Introduction:

Lancashire Renewables, a leading waste processing and resource recovery provider, operates two sites capable of handling up to 600,000 tonnes of municipal waste annually.

To support their unique recycling operations, the company required a crucial composite part for their composting reactors.

Facing issues with their existing European supplier and tight refurbishment deadlines, Lancashire Renewables turned to Lamplas for a reliable and efficient solution.

Project Overview:

Lancashire Renewables needed over 6,000 covers supplied in batches to refurbish the composting reactors at their two sites. With a history of working with Lamplas—dating back to the mid-2000s when the purchasing manager was working within the bus manufacturing industry—the company had confidence in Lamplas’ ability to deliver high-quality, custom solutions under tight deadlines.

Key Contributions:

Designing a Multi-Piece Tool

After thorough discussions with Lancashire Renewables, Lamplas developed a multi-piece tool capable of producing up to 30 components per day. This design ensured a balance between high-volume production and the precise specifications required for the covers.

Rapid Manufacturing Process

Despite the complexity of manufacturing a multi-piece pattern, a mould tool, and a silicone bag, Lamplas managed to deliver the first batch of covers within just 10 weeks of the initial contact. This quick turnaround was critical for meeting the tight refurbishment schedule of the composting reactors.

Seamless Delivery and Batch Production

Lamplas organised production in batches, ensuring a steady supply of covers to refurbish the two sites. This approach allowed Lancashire Renewables to continue operations with minimal disruption, demonstrating Lamplas’ adaptability to client requirements and operational constraints.

Quality and Reliability

By leveraging their expertise in composite manufacturing, Lamplas provided covers that were not only durable and fit for purpose but also aligned with the high standards required for the unique recycling centre.

Outcome:

Lamplas successfully delivered over 6,000 composite covers, helping Lancashire Renewables refurbish their composting reactors across two sites. The partnership ensured that the tight deadlines were met without compromising quality, enabling Lancashire Renewables to maintain their waste processing operations efficiently.
